LITERARY PUMPKIN WALK · 25-31 OCT 2023

A self-guided tour of book-themed pumpkins and scarecrows across the Capitol Hill neighborhood is a celebration of the season (and our favorite books!). This is a companion event to the Capitol Hill Community Foundation’s annual Literary Feast.

Who needs spooky? Our neighborhood’s Halloween is Literary! Each year, Capitol Hill neighbors decorate their homes for the holiday with a theme based on a book or literary character. Decorations can be anything from a single pumpkin or scarecrow to a full-on front yard scene.

The Pumpkin Walk is not a fundraiser, but we hope it helps spread the word about the important work of the Capitol Hill Community Foundation.

And of course the foundation will happily accept your donations in its honor. Proceeds from the companion Literary Feast fundraising event (and donations made in celebration of the Pumpkin Walk) support the Capitol Hill Community Foundation’s grants to neighborhood schools. In 2018, grants totaling more than $140,000 were given to fund special projects and programs for local school children.

No idea is too small . . . but think big! Some neighbors work together to decorate entire blocks inspired by a single book.

All registrants to the Literary Pumpkin walk are included in our online map, and visitors can vote for their favorite design. The winning registrant gets to choose a neighborhood school to receive a grant of $1,000.
